To support our growth, we are searching for an exceptional Privacy and Access Consultant to join us. As part of a growing and well respected team, you’ll work with clients in the public, healthcare, and private sectors. You’ll collaborate with a seasoned team of professionals with backgrounds in project management, change management, service design, risk management and technology, and ​‘lived’ experience, who have your back and value your contributions. 

What We’re Looking For

As a Mara Privacy and Access Consultant, you’ll bring a broad set of skills, knowledge and experience in privacy, access to information and related areas like risk management, information governance and policy development. You will deliver risk assessments, advise on complex access requests and develop and apply frameworks, programs, or policies that provide meaningful guidance to clients as they introduce new technologies and business solutions.

You’ll have exceptional writing skills and the ability to communicate and apply complex privacy and access concepts, laws and principles clearly, in a way that adds value to our clients. As a self-starter who is detail-oriented and flexible, you will take on various types of projects based on the priorities of the firm and our clients. In all the work that you do, you will be encouraged to think creatively and resourcefully. As a complement to our existing team members, we are looking for that special person who is energetic and fun-loving, but serious about the work.

We’d like to hear from you if you bring:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role applying access and privacy skills and knowledge to successfully support clients across a range of deliverables such as privacy impact assessments, privacy and access programs and policies, and advising on complex access requests and/​or reviews 
  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline 
  • A strong aptitude for analyzing and interpreting policy and legislation
  • Demonstrated understanding of privacy and access to information principles and practices and their application
  • Demonstrated experience leading responses to access to information requests including applying legislation to complete redactions and leveraging supporting technologies
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating privacy complaint and access to information investigations
  • Experience advising on privacy breach containment strategies, investigating privacy breaches and reviewing organizational privacy management practices 
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • An ability to communicate complex information effectively to a wide variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity
  • Strong consultative skills, including facilitation and problem solving 
  • Exemplary client service skills and ability to collaborate at all organizational levels

  • Access to information related certification 
  • Experience applying privacy, access, policy or information management skills in the public sector
