To support our growth, we are searching for a Senior Privacy Consultant to join our team. 

Role Summary

As a Senior Privacy Consultant you will work on a wide range of challenging and interesting client assignments in this rapidly growing area of our company to help our clients across Canada understand, plan for and make informed decisions about the privacy and security risks they face every day. As a senior privacy consultant you will help manage and deliver client projects including privacy gap analyses, privacy frameworks and policies, privacy risk and impact assessments and other complex deliverables, working directly with our team and clients. An excellent writer and communicator, you will help develop proposals, presentations and privacy deliverables that add value. In all of the work that you do, you will be encouraged to think creatively and resourcefully, and you will be supported by a seasoned team of professionals with backgrounds in law, policy, privacy, security, risk management and technology, and lived’ experience, who have your back. This role is a remote position, preferably based in Atlantic Canada. For the right candidate, we are open to remote work location anywhere in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help to manage, develop, and deliver client privacy projects, which will include:
    • Privacy impact assessments of new projects, services and digital solutions
    • Privacy management frameworks, programs, tools and methodologies
    • Privacy policies, statements, and notices
    • Privacy-related training materials, guides, and tools
  • Incorporate privacy-by-design’ principles in support of client projects and solutions
  • Lead analysis of the application of new or existing privacy laws and leading best practices to client projects and organizations
  • Helping clients to understand privacy risks and obligations
  • Write and edit privacy deliverables, reports, policies, presentations
  • Contribute to cybersecurity-related deliverables, such as policy and program reviews or risk assessments, working with other team members
  • Support business development through the coordination of proposal development, including proposal writing
  • Deliver exceptional client service
  • Provide leadership within the team
  • Contribute to the firm’s business plan and to the improvement of Mara’s privacy practice
  • Keep informed about new and emerging privacy and cybersecurity concepts and trends


  • Seven or more years of experience in a similar role applying privacy skills and knowledge to client assignments such as privacy impact assessments and privacy program development
  • A strong aptitude for analyzing and interpreting policy and legislation
  • Demonstrated understanding of privacy principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to a wide variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity
  • Strong consultative skills, including facilitation and problem solving
  • Exemplary client service skills and ability to collaborate at all organizational levels
  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline
  • A master’s degree in Public Administration and/​or a Law Degree is an asset
  • A privacy-related certification is an asset
  • Complementary expertise or designation in risk management and/​or cybersecurity would be an asset.
