To support our growth, we are searching for an exceptional Privacy & AI Governance Consultant to join us. As part of our growing Privacy and AI practices, as well as the established and growing privacy practice, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping how organizations balance innovation with accountability. Privacy &You’ll collaborate with a seasoned team of professionals with backgrounds in law, policy, privacy, security, risk management and technology, and lived’ experience, who have your back and value your contributions. Whether navigating privacy laws, designing ethical AI systems, or building governance programs for future-ready organizations, our team delivers clarity where others see complexity.

What We’re Looking For

As a Mara Privacy & AI Governance Consultant, you’ll support our clients in developing and implementing frameworks, policies, and strategies that align with provincial, national and global data privacy regulations and responsible AI principles. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, stays ahead of regulatory curves, and is passionate about shaping the future of responsible technology. This is more than a compliance role; it’s an opportunity to influence how organizations design systems that are not only compliant, but trustworthy, explainable, and aligned with social expectations.

You’ll work with cross-functional teams to craft solutions that blend legal rigor with technological fluency, helping clients operationalize ethics, embed privacy by design, and stay ahead of AI and data governance standards. You’ll have exceptional writing skills and the ability to communicate and apply complex privacy and AI Governance concepts in a way that adds value to our clients. In all the work that you do, you will be encouraged to think creatively and resourcefully. As a complement to our existing team members, we are looking for that special person who Is passionate about co-creating tools, templates, and processes that enable clients to move from principles to practice — with agility and accountability.

We recognize the value of diverse backgrounds and experiences and encourage applicants to consider how they might align with these desirable characteristics:
 

  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline with a background in public policy, data science, law or technology.
  • 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in privacy, compliance, AI governance, data protection, or related areas.
  • Experience in a similar role applying privacy skills and knowledge to successfully complete client deliverables, such as privacy impact assessments, privacy programs, and information management policies.
  • Strong knowledge of the evolving AI regulatory landscape with an aptitude for analyzing and interpreting policy, privacy legislation and other regulatory trends in AI ethics and governance.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, high-autonomy environments with diverse stakeholders.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a systems-thinking mindset.
  • Excellent analytical, consultative and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong client service skills, including facilitation and problem solving 

  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity

Assets:

  • Certifications such as AIGP, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or equivalent.

  • Familiarity with responsible AI, machine learning risk, or algorithmic impact assessments.

  • Technical literacy around AI/ML concepts, data architectures, or model governance.

  • Experience applying privacy, policy or information management skills in the public sector
